How could I resist the charms of this gun-totin' stetson-wearing chipotle barbeque sauce packaging? In short, I couldn't – despite the fact that this bottle o'sauce cost a spicy £7. But what the heck, this ain't just sauce, this is pop art folks!
Yup, this fat-necked dude is just one of a range of Whoop Ass Cowboys. Allow me to introduce you to Mr Jalapeno Steak Sauce and also to Sheriff Habanero Chicken Wing Sauce – who both harbour their own flavour of chili-infused sauce. I found them not in my local saloon breaking chairs over heads and throwing people through windows, but in the considerably more sedate environs of Heal's on Tottenham Court Road in its cool-stuff-for-the-kitchen department that isn't actually called that.
I've yet to try some - but I see that it gets a very respectable four out of five rating over on one of my favourite new blog finds, bbqsaucereviews.com. I think at this point I'd better hand over to Wendy Rene who sums up how I'm feeling right now in song so much better than I could in mere words:
Thanks to Get Involved blog for continual musical inspiration
POST SCRIPT: I have now tried my Whoop Ass sauce. It's very, very good. Reminscent, in hickory smokiness, to the kind of delicious BBQ sauce you get in Bodean's – or any rib shack worth its salt. But it's got bits of chipotle (smoked jalapeno) in the blend too – which provide a really great chilli kick. With ribs or pulled pork, this is going to blow your mind!
