Kirsten's Awesome Burger Cupcakes

A friend of mine, Kirsten, showed me these photos the other day and I just had to share them here on the blog. Yes, it's a burger cupcake – complete with cookie fries on the side!

"I actually made a batch of these burger cupcakes as a present for Yianni (of #Meateasy and Meatwagon fame) last summer," says the cake's baker, Kirsten. "Admittedly, burger cuppies aren't a new concept, and I took my base idea from the ever brilliant Bakerella website. Bakerella has a great template that I used for the fast food container the burger comes in and the little bag for the cookie fries.

"I did change a few things up though, like using starburst sweets and rolling them out flat with a rolling pin to create cheese squares. The best part is, you can make these babies without actually having to bake a thing! Not my style, personally, but helpful for kitchenphobes out there. The bun is a vanilla cupcake split in two, the burger patty is a chocolate brownie, and the lettuce is fondant, with red ketchup and yellow mustard icing. Add a few sesame seeds on top and voila!"

And here's how Kirsten's cake measured up to one of Yianni's famous Meatwagon burgers!

I was there on the day that this was presented to Yianni - as a consolation prize after the first Meatwagon got turned over by scallies. It looked even better in the flesh. World class cakery
